Position yourself for the career you want – not the career you have

1 Comment 19 November 2009

I often advise clients that it is not where you are, it is where you are going that is important! In terms of managing your career it is vital to take a bigger picture view and know how you want to shape it for the future. A job is a single occurrence whilst a career is something that is built over a period of time.

Understand the direction you want to go, the position you are aiming for, and know the steps you need to take and the people you need to know to help you get there. Whilst you are building the montage of your career ensure that at every step you leverage every opportunity to expand your skills, broaden your experience and grow your networks – you never know what or who can be of assistance in the future.
